The Skinny

Spring is here, and so is the fishing.  While the weather has been hit or miss.  The cold fronts and moisture have been great for our snowpack we are  currently around 120% of normal.  What does that mean?  Our water conditions are great.   With the dirty water the fish seem to be looking for that bigger meal and are not in bug mode.  But the fish are eating and they look great.  Being a Freestone in the spring the crowds are non existent.  Hitting windows when the river is dropping or stable will be dependent on the weather.  But Fishing is great and will only get better.  Catch rates are high right now!

Bugs to float: Midges and baetis Salmonflies verry soon!

Bugs to pull:  Buggers(Thin mints, olive and black) Articulated streamers(goldie, rusty trombone)

Bugs to drift:  Worms, eggs, midges(rs2, mayhem),stoneflies(pat’s doublebeed)

The Skinny

Fishing is Good to great! Flows are up which is good this allows the anglers and fish to spread out.  Suckers are on the spawn and the trout are on their eggs.  We have also been having some success on scuds and annelids.  There has also been some good bug activity and some suspended fishing looking for them.  The Mile will continue to fish great in the coming months.
