North Platte River fishing 7/13/22

North Platte River Fishing Report

We are currently under summer closure due to poor conditions and lack of guide availability

Upper North Platte

USGS flow in real time @ Northgate 650ish cfs and fluctuating  https://waterdata.usgs.gov/co/nwis/uv?site_no=06620000

@Saratoga 1000ish cfs  fluctuating daily National Weather Service Advanced Hydrologic Prediction Service

The Skinny

Water temperatures are still decent in the Morning starting around 62 degrees F but by mid-day they are well over 70.  Caddis, are still going and there are even a few stoneflies still going.  Early on early off is the best tactic for ethical catch and release right now.

Bugs to float: Chubbys, caddis, PMDS

Bugs to pull:   Thin Mints, olive buggers, orange blossom special, rusty trombone, peanut envy

Bugs to drift:  Stoneflies (pat’s to princes) Midges (zebra, mayhems, ju ju) Caddis(birds nest, soft hackles, graphic caddis, prince nymph) PMDs (split back, pts, hares ear) annelids(rock and san juan worms)

Miracle Mile 500ish cfs

Flow in real time https://www.usbr.gov/gp-bin/arcweb_korr.pl

The Skinny

The Mile is fishing good to great, the bad news is it has been busy!  Lots of boats and wade fisherman have been taking advantage of the clear water below the dam.  With flows low we are pulling off the Mile as there is simply not much room for the float and wade angler at this flow.

Bugs to float: N/A

Bugs to pull:   Thin Mints, spiders, goldee etc big bugs seem to be working best on the SWING

Bugs to drift:  Midges (zebra, mayhems, ju ju)  annelids( rock and san juan worms)  scuds(tan, olive, orange), leeches and eggs
